Welcome back to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2!

I hope you had a great holiday and were able to relax with family and friends.

We have a busy term planned for The Responsible Rhinos. Mr Wakely will still be with us until Term 2. He is a student teacher from AUT. For topic, we are looking at Anzac for the first few weeks, then moving onto an environmental focus exploring rubbish and recycling. At the end of the term, we will be having a Wearable Arts show to display what we have learnt this term.

Please continue to read with your child every night at home, and sign their reading book. A set of high frequency words are also in their book bags for you to practice with.

Every Monday, I will be putting some questions up onto the blog under home support for you to complete with your child at home. If they answer all 5 questions, they will get 10 house points. They have all week to complete the questions and bring their notebook in to show me. If your child completes the home work every week in the term, they will get a special prize and a cupcake! Let's see who will be getting a special prize at the end of the term?

I have an open door policy so please come in and see me if you need to talk to me about anything, or if I can help you in any way.

Beach scape Art

Today we have been making the beach using sand, shells and paint.

First we painted the plate for the background. The background needed to be blue or green. Next we cut a hole in another plate and painted that any colour.
Next we drew some fishes and sharks for our beach scape and glued them onto our background with shells and sand. Last we glued on some plastic onto the plate that we cut to stop the sand and shells from falling out. Madeline and Mrs Priestley stapled the plates together.

They look great! Check them out!

Maraetai Beach trip

Today we have a FANTASTIC day at the beach! All of Rowandale School went to Maraetai beach, and we have so much fun!

We got to swim in the sea, build sandcastles, play on the playground, play with PE equipment and collect shells!

Here are a few pictures of our adventures and a video of everyone having fun on the playground!

Self-portraits

This afternoon we were learning about self-portraits. This is where it is a picture of yourself. We had to draw the other half of our picture with a pencil, remembering to draw our nose, eyes, ears and mouth.

It was quite tricky for some of us to draw the matching half. We tried really hard to create our self-portraits and are really proud of what we have created!

Puppet Pals

Today we learnt how to use Puppet Pals. Jeremiah was the knight, Mrs Priestley was Cinderella and Elijah was the witch. It was funny to make the video. Check out what we made!

Sandpit time!

Today the Determined Dinosaurs and Responsible Rhinos went to the sandpit for our writing experience. We had to work together to create a WOW sandcastle. It was lots of fun watching each other construct their sandcastle, and some of us even made volcanoes! WOW!

Who is the tallest?

Today for maths we were measuring who was the tallest. We were given a height chart from Auckland Transport where we put our pictures on to show our height! It was great fun and we were very competitive to see who was the tallest.
