Tomus and his maths

Today Tomus was practicing ordering his numbers in tens. He worked hard to figure out which one came first, and then counted in tens up to 90! Great work Tomus on making the snake. 

Planting with The Determined Dinosaurs

Today, The Responsible Rhinos and The Determined Dinosaurs went to visit the garden. We took along some plants and seeds to plant in the garden.

Mrs Priestley brought a blueberry, lettuce, basil and cabbage plant. Miss Sharman brought some carrot, parsley, parsnip and beetroot seeds. 

First we needed to dig some holes for the plants and seeds. Next we covered them with the soil and gave them some water. Hopefully they will grow into big plants so that we can eat and use the food for our lunch. 

Beach scape Art

Today we have been making the beach using sand, shells and paint. 

First we painted the plate for the background. The background needed to be blue or green. Next we cut a hole in another plate and painted that any colour.
Next we drew some fishes and sharks for our beach scape and glued them onto our background with shells and sand. Last we glued on some plastic onto the plate that we cut to stop the sand and shells from falling out. Madeline and Mrs Priestley stapled the plates together.

Self-portraits

This afternoon we were learning about self-portraits. This is where it is a picture of yourself. We had to draw the other half of our picture with a pencil, remembering to draw our nose, eyes, ears and mouth. 

It was quite tricky for some of us to draw the matching half. We tried really hard to create our self-portraits and are really proud of what we have created!

Handwriting practice

We have been learning how to form tall sticks and short sticks. Sometimes its hard to tell the difference but we have been persisting to make it right! We got to practice with chalk outside our classroom! 

Swimming!

Today we got to go swimming with Miss Sharman in Room 5. We were practicing getting into the pool and monkey crawling on the bar. It was fun in the pool!

Wednesday Maths

Today we are learning about Pictographs! We were talking about the food we like the most and the food we don't like the most! 
Here is what we got:

Te Hiao: People like chocolate the most. 

Doreen: Only 1 person likes pizza

Saane: I like apples.

Jeremiah: Lots of people dont like apples.

Miley: I don't like everything. 

Learning about Graphs!

Today we were looking at a Tally Chart. This is where you put a mark next to the item a person likes. 

We were talking about the most popular colour was in The Responsible Rhinos. We had to walk around and ask our friends what colour they liked. It was the colour pink with 5 likes! Next was purple and blue with 4 likes. Then came green with 3 likes and last was black with 1 like.

This year Room 2 has named themselves.......The RESPONSIBLE RHINOS! We are looking forward to making lots of progress in our learning and having lots of fun in the process!
