Namaste family,
Last Wednesday, we celebrated Diwali day at Rowandale School. In room 2 to celebrate the colourful day we watched the story about Ramayana and the Diwali story. Then we did some Diwali colouring. After that we went to the hall for a spectacular assembly.
Here is the link if you would like to watch it at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=pp59n0So-XE
Fauzan in room 2 arrived to school in his beautiful traditional Indian top - Sherwani, he looked wonderful and he definitely had his class mates complimenting him. Thank you Fauzan for wearing your culture on Wednesday.
Here is a picture of Fauzan.

Music Practice - One direction: What makes you beautiful
Hello again,
Last week on Tuesday, we evaluated our musical performance and decided on the very last week that we wanted to do more than show the school the sounds of some instruments. So we got some student voices on songs we could sing and dance to, we had a range of selection, some wanting Chris Brown to others wanting the whip and nay nay song, in the end we went with One direction - what makes you beautiful, as we wanted to remind all the lovely girls in school how beautiful they are.
We managed to learn our dance moves in a short amount of time and learning the lyrics were a piece of cake as some students were familiar with the song already. Here is a short snippet of some of the boys practicing on a Friday morning just before the first bell.

Week 1 - Niue Language Week
Week 2 - Ronald McDonald Dental Care Mobile on site
Week 3 - Labour day: Monday No School
-
Tokelau Language Week
Week 5 - School Musical Performance
Week 9- Athletics Day for Fledglings and Busy Bees
Week 10- End of Term 4: Tuesday
You will be notified if we have any more special dates coming up during
the term
Greetings parents,
This is the last term for the year, it will be a busy one with
Music classes in place and Athletics Day to work towards. Last term ended great
with a popcorn party earned by room two by behaving and working very hard in
class during the term.
We have many students who have moved up with reading levels and
maths levels, this term we will work even harder to get to an even higher
level. I do stress the importance of doing extra work at home. There will be
basic maths, a poem, and spelling homework to take home for homework during the
week; Monday will be the issue date starting in week 3, with the last Friday
issue tomorrow. Readers will go home on Monday through to Thursday night. On
Friday book bags will stay at school because of the weekend, during this time
the children can be exposed to different text types such as the newspaper and
magazines at home; this is a good time to read Duffy books as well.
In room two we plan to make musical instruments, so we will need
your help, by bringing in empty cereal boxes, old unwanted shoe boxes, toilet
paper rolls, hand towel rolls and recyclable bottles with ridges. We will be
appreciative of anything, thank you.
The weather will warm up during the term, so it would be really
good to see children coming to School with the School Hat, these are also
available to purchase from the School Office for a low price of $10.00. It is
encouraged that the children wear full school uniform so a Rowandale School hat
would be complete.
If there are any concerns that you would like to discuss about your
child, feel free to come see me before or after school.

Niue Language Week
Fakalofa lahi atu,
For Niue Language Week, we were asked to complete a weaving of colours, to showcase a skill that is highly used in the Island of Niue. In Niue weaving is used to make bags, coasters, hats, baskets and more. Here are some pictures that shows our completed product.
We folded the A5 piece of paper in half and cut strips. Then we coloured and drew patterns on each strip. After that we weaved blue and yellow (Niue flag colours) over and under each strip.
For some of us, it was a little hard to do, so we asked our friends who knew how to do it for help. We all worked together as a class to get the job done. We had fun and were very proud of our designs.
Come back here for more reading on our MOTAT trip :)

Class Reward: Popcorn Party and A Video Call to South Korea
Fakalofa lahi atu friends and family,
On the 24th September, the Responsible Rhinos were treated to popcorn and a Skype session with children in South Korea. Before we made our popcorn we all made a popcorn holder for our popcorn. After morning tea we all went to the hall to look, listen and smell the popcorn popping in the microwave, we had a bag of popcorn between two people. We buddied up with someone that we usually don't buddy with then we lined up to get our popcorn bag. Next we waited to put our popcorn bag in the microwave and waited 2-3 minutes for the kernels to pop. After that we let Miss Fuataga take the hot bag out and put it to the side to cool down. We all went back to the class and split our popcorn bag with our buddy. We all had fun listening out for the popping sounds of the popcorn, enjoying the smell and best of all we loved tasting the buttery popcorn.
Here are some photos to show our popcorn experience. Remember to keep reading to see what we did with our Skype to South Korea.
We are all closing our eyes so that we could focus on the sound of the popcorn.
After lunch we got to complete the class reward for the day by Video Calling South Korea. We talked to some students in Pine Class at Ryerson International School. We asked them many questions and enjoyed talking with them. Here are some of many questions that were asked.
Q: How old are you? A: 7 in Korean years
Q: Why do you look like that? A: We are Korean
Q: Do you know Mr Yoon? A: No
Q: Do you like school? A: Yes
Q: What is your favourite food? A: Kimchi
Ms Mahina, then followed with a tour of their school.
We loved talking to students in South Korea and are thinking about writing them a letter for Christmas.
Here are some of the photos we took with some of their students.
Pine Class in South Korea thought that we looked very odd with our onesies and PJs on, but we explained that it was to help fundraise to send our year sixes to camp in Term 4.
